Mafia Wars pirate added to special loot lineup

With the recent release of Mafia Wars Bangkok — we’ve been introduced to the benefits of working with either the Yakuza or Triads, the joys of earning Thai Baht and, now, of locating the pirate, a special loot item — much like the Politico Corrupto in Cuba — required to pull off certain high-level jobs. Pirates can be earned by taking over the Piracy Operation business in Mafia Wars Bangkok, which is unlocked by mastering the ‘Secure a Pirate Vessel’ job. Players will start out earning one pirate every three hours, with a total capacity of five pirates

Just as Mafia Wars Bangkok arrives, the New York portion of the game will be undergoing some major renovations — New York properties, specifically. These changes are designed to accommodate “the return of robbing.” Zynga also pinky swears that this revamp will not make players lose money.

It’s official — Mafia Wars: Bangkok has officially launched for everyone! Players level 18 and up can access this new area of the game for new missions, new weapons and new boss battles. Mafia Wars Bangkok "more accessible" to newbies

A note on the Mafia Wars Facebook page gives some more details about the new expansion, including the fact that the game will be “more accessible” to newer players. Players levels 18 to 200 will use a sliding scale for the amount of energy required to complete missions and the payouts for those missions as well. That means, if you’re at a lower level, it will take less energy to complete missions, and that also means the cash earned from those missions will be smaller (boo).

Mafia Wars is a text and picture-based game on Facebook, where you climb the crime ladder by growing your mafia, completing missions and fighting against other families. The game is set in New York, but players can travel between New York to Cuba, Bangkok, Moscow and Las Vegas (coming later in 2010) to do more missions and make more money.
