Popcap goes casino crazy with domain registrations

While Popcap games like Bejeweled Blitz and Zuma Blitz favor skill over luck, a host of new domain registrations hint that Popcap is looking to expand its involvement in skill-free online gambling games. Super-sleuth Superannuation first noticed the newly-registered domains, which combine various Popcap game names (Bejeweled, Big Money, Chuzzle, Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies, “PvZ,” Zuma and the Popcap name itself) with various gambling-related (bingo, casino, keno, lottery, lotto, poker, scratch, scratchcard, slot and slots).

Now that millions are flocking to Facebook games like FarmVille and Pet Society , we’re also seeing another big trend — established game publishers translating their existing games into something a little more social. We’ve seen this with Bejeweled Blitz from PopCap (with much success) and more recently with Faunasphere from Big Fish Games. Looks like Big Fish plans to keep socializing its existing games, with today’s launch of My Tribe, the casual gaming company’s second Facebook game.
